Description

Tamhini Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected forest area in the Shayadri mountain range near the Tamhini Ghats of Maharashtra. This sanctuary is verdant green that is not only green but highly biodiverse as well with a diverse flora, fauna, and avifauna. Flora or the vegetation of this location is made up of evergreen forests, semi-evergreen forests, and most deciduous forests and species like teak, bamboo, Ain, Shisham, mango, and Jamun can be found making the jungles of this region along with various indigenous species. In terms of fauna leopards, Indian giant squirrels, barking deer, Indian pangolins, Indian civets, and wild boars are some of the many species found in this region. It is no slouch in terms of avifauna population as well and species like the Malabar whistling thrush, crested serpent eagle, grey junglefowl, golden oriole, and Indian pitta are some of the residents, this park is also known for its population of reptiles and amphibians. Apart from the amazing diversity and green environments this location is highly scenic and has a ton of heritage and cultural relevance as well and has many different forts, caves, and sites of religious interest. Along with that, this park is also known for its nature conservation practices and the efforts to aware visitors of wildlife conservation and ecological balance. This park is easily accessible from the cities of Pune and Mumbai and is pretty well connected by roads, hence reaching it by buses, taxis, cabs, and private vehicles is an experience in itself. The best season to visit this location is during the monsoon and post-monsoon seasons when the environment is highly vibrant and at its best.
