लोणावळा आणि लगतच्या खंडाळा ही समुद्रसपाटीपासून 622 मीटर (2,041 फूट) मीटर उंचीवर असलेल्या सह्याद्री पर्वतरांगांमध्ये दख्खनचे पठार आणि कोकण किनारपट्टीची जुळी ठिकाणे आहेत. हिल स्टेशन्स अंदाजे 38 चौरस किलोमीटर (15 चौरस मैल) क्षेत्रफळात पसरलेली आहेत. पावसाळ्यात पर्यटन शिखरावर असते. लोणावळा हे नाव 'लेणी' म्हणजे लेणी आणि 'अवेल म्हणजे मालिका' या शब्दांवरून आले आहे. म्हणजे 'लेण्यांची मालिका' जी लोणावळ्यापासून जवळ असलेल्या कार्ला लेणी, भाजा लेणी आणि बेडसा यांसारख्या अनेक लेण्यांचा संदर्भ आहे. लोणावळा आणि खंडाळ्याच्या सहलीला कार्ला, भाजा आणि बेडसा लेणी आणि लोहगड आणि विसापूर या दोन किल्ल्यांचे दर्शन घडवता येते. आणखी एक प्रेक्षणीय स्थळ म्हणजे तुंगी किल्ला, कर्जत गावाजवळ मलिक अहमदने काबीज केलेल्या किल्ल्यांपैकी एक आणि त्याच्या नैसर्गिक सामर्थ्यासाठी ओळखला जातो. अंधारबन ट्रेक पिंपरी गावातून सुरू होतो, घनदाट जंगले, दऱ्या आणि धबधब्यांमधून जातो आणि येथे संपतो. भिरा.
