श्री गगनगिरी महाराजांबद्दल
श्री गगनगिरी महाराजांचा जन्म महाराष्ट्रातील सातारा जिल्ह्यातील पाटण येथील मंडुरे नावाच्या गावात श्रीपाद पाटणकर म्हणून झाला. पाटणकर घराणे हे राजघराणे आणि चालुक्यांचे थेट वंशज होते. वयाच्या सातव्या वर्षी ते घर सोडून बत्तीस-शिराळा येथील नाथसंप्रदायाच्या मठात गेले. अगदी लहान वयातच त्यांनी संन्यास घेतला.
मठात दिक्षा घेतल्यानंतर त्यांनी नाथ संप्रदायातील विविध महंत, ऋषी यांच्यासमवेत प्रवास सुरू केला. तीर्थयात्रांदरम्यान त्यांनी योग आणि अनेक गूढ आणि धार्मिक पद्धती शिकल्या. नेपाळ, भूतान, मानस सरोवर, गौरीशंकर, गोरक्षदरबार, गोरखपूर, पशुपतीनाथ अशा दूरवरचा प्रवास करून ते अल्मोडा येथे परतले. शेवटी हिमाचल प्रदेशातील गंगा खोऱ्यातून प्रवास करून ते बद्रिका आश्रमात पोहोचले.
गगनगिरी महाराज त्यांच्या परिश्रमांमुळे खूप थकले होते आणि त्यांनी गुहेत विश्रांती घेण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. तो आराम करत असताना भगवे वस्त्र परिधान केलेले एक ऋषी पर्वतावरून तेथे आले. त्यांनी आपल्या कमंडलूतून गगनगिरी महाराजांच्या तोंडावर पाणी शिंपडले. त्याने त्याला कोथिंबीरीच्या पानांसारखे हिरवे गवतही दिले. त्यांच्या तपश्चर्येसाठी त्यांनी गवताच्या गाद्या तयार केल्या होत्या. त्याला त्याच्या गाद्या जिवंत वनस्पतींप्रमाणे वाढताना दिसल्या. हा एक अनुभव मानला जात होता, जिथे तांत्रिक तंत्र सिद्ध होते. त्याने अनेक काया कल्प केले. या प्रक्रियेत त्यांनी तांत्रिक तंत्रात अनेक नवीन संकल्पना शोधून काढल्या आणि त्या खऱ्या केल्या. त्यांनी माऊली कुंड, माऊली कडा, झांजू पाणी, मौसमे कडा, कासारबारी, आले पाणी, सात-बारकुंड, होळी कडा, मरगज पाणी, जंगलदेव पट्टी, शिराळे इत्यादी अनेक ठिकाणी तपश्चर्या केली.
पावसाळ्यात ते गर्भगिरी, गगनगिरी येथील गुहेत राहिले. सांगशी, वझर, वेसराफ, पालसंबे, रामलिंग इत्यादी ठिकाणी नदीजवळच्या तलावात त्यांनी तपश्चर्या केली. नंतर ते कोकणातील विजयदुर्ग येथे गेले, तेथून ते स्टीमरने मुंबईला पोहोचले. 1945 ते 1948 या काळात त्यांनी कोकणातील राजापूरजवळील आंगळे येथे कायकल्प केला. जसजसे अधिकाधिक लोकांना त्याच्या ध्यानाचा लाभ होत गेला, तसतसे अधिकाधिक लोक त्यांची पूजा आणि आदर करू लागले आणि त्यांची ख्याती सर्वत्र पसरली. त्या काळात यशवंतराव चव्हाण, बाळासाहेब देसाई, राजारामबापू पाटील, कापसे असे मंत्री आणि अनेक मान्यवर अधिकारी त्यांची पूजा करायचे. स्वामीजींनी मग एकट्याने संपूर्ण भारतभर प्रवास करण्याचे ठरवले आणि त्यानुसार त्यांचा प्रवास सुरू झाला. यावेळी त्यांची गोरी त्वचा आरोग्याने चमकत होती. संन्यासी भगवी वस्त्रे परिधान करून, ते लोक आदरणीय होते. त्यांनी हरिद्वार ते दिल्ली, भोपाळ इ. असा पायी प्रवास केला. भोपाळ येथे ते एका टाक्याजवळ स्नान करून विश्रांती घेत असताना, कोल्हापूरचे संस्थानिक आणि त्यांचे सेवानिवृत्त एका छोट्या भेटीवर जवळच होते. स्वामीजींची मातृभाषा मराठी असल्याने त्यांचे आणि कोल्हापूरच्या राज्यकर्त्याचे संभाषण झाले, परिणामी राज्यकर्त्याने स्वामीजींना त्यांच्यासोबत कोल्हापुरात येण्याची विनंती केली. 1932 मध्ये कोल्हापूरचा राजा दाजीपूरच्या जंगलात शिकारीसाठी गेला होता. त्यांच्यासोबत आलेले स्वामीजी पुन्हा जंगलातच राहिले, जिथे ते १९३२ ते १९४० पर्यंत राहिले. त्यांनी ही वर्षे ध्यान आणि सखोल चिंतनात घालवली. 1948 ते 1950 या काळात मुंबईत त्यांनी वाळकेश्वरजवळील शिडी येथील मारुती मंदिराजवळ दादी हिरजी पारशी स्मशानभूमीत मुक्काम केला. मुंबईतील बिर्ला क्रीडा केंद्रात गुरुपौर्णिमा (गुरूंची आराधना करण्यासाठी आषाढ महिन्यातील पौर्णिमा) मोठ्या प्रमाणावर साजरी केली जात असे. समाजाच्या सन्मानाच्या या सर्व व्यावहारानंतरही त्यांनी 60 वर्षांहून अधिक काळ तपश्चर्या सुरू ठेवली. तरुणांनी पुढे येऊन हिंदू धर्माचे वैभव जागृत करण्याचे आवाहनही महाराजांनी केले. त्यांना जागतिक धर्म संसदेने "विश्वगौरव विभूषण" प्रदान केले.
दिवसानुसार प्रवासाचा कार्यक्रम
दिवस-01 -: मनोरी आश्रम-खोपोली आश्रम-लोणावळा
मुंबई येथून प्रयाण व गगनगिरी आश्रम मनोरी येथे भेट. आश्रमातील दर्शनानंतर गगनगिरी आश्रम खोपोलीकडे प्रयाण. a महाराज समाधीचे दर्शन घ्या आणि नंतर लोणावळ्याला जाण्यासाठी आगमनानंतर हॉटेल ओ/एन हॉल्टमध्ये चेक करा.
दिवस-02-: कोल्हापूर
न्याहारी झाल्यावर कोल्हापूरकडे आगमन हॉटेलमध्ये चेक इन करा. संध्याकाळी Viist महालक्ष्मी Temple. O/N थांबा.
दिवस-03-: गगनबावडा -पन्हाळा
न्याहारी झाल्यावर गगनबावड्याकडे गगनगिरी आश्रमाला भेट दिली. संध्याकाळी परत पन्हाळा ओ/एन हॉल्टला परतलो.
दिवस-04 -: जोतिबा- दाजीपूर आश्रम -औडुंबर-सांगली
ब्रेक फास्ट नंतर ज्योतिबा मंदिराकडे प्रयाण ज्योतिबाच्या दर्शनानंतर दाजीपूर गगनगिरी आश्रमाकडे प्रयाण . दर्शन घेऊन परत कोल्हापुरात आलो आणि सांंगळीजवळील औदुंबरकडे निघालो.
दत्त दर्शनानंतर सांगलीला परत आल्यानंतर हॉटेल ओ/एन हॉल्टमध्ये तपासा.
दिवस-०५: मुंबईला परत

During monsoon, he stayed in the cave at Garbhagiri, Gagangiri. He did penance in a pond near the river at Sangashi, Vazar, Vesraf, Palsambe, Ramling, etc. Later he went to Vijaydurg, in the Konkan area from where he reached Bombay by steamer. During 1945 to 1948, he did Kayakalpa at Angale, near Rajapur in Konkan. As more and more people benefited from his meditation, more and more people started worshipping and respecting him, and his reputation spread all around. In those days Ministers like Yashwantrao Chavan, Balasaheb Desai, Rajarambapu Patil, Kapse, and several respected officers used to worship him. Swamiji then decided to travel all over India alone on foot and accordingly his journey started. At this time, his fair skin was glowing with health. Attired in the saffron robes of a sanyasi, he was revered by people. He traveled on foot from Haridwar to Delhi, Bhopal, etc. At Bhopal, while he was taking a rest after bathing near a tank, the princely ruler of Kolhapur and his retinue happened to be nearby while on a brief visit. Swamiji's mother tongue is Marathi, a conversation between him and the Kolhapur ruler's retinue ensued resulting in the ruler requesting Swamiji to accompany him to Kolhapur. In 1932 the Raja of Kolhapur had been to the Dajipur jungle for hunting. Swamiji who had accompanied him stayed back in the jungle, where he lived from 1932 to 1940. He spent these years in meditation and deep reflection. In Bombay between 1948 and 1950, he stayed in Dadi Hirji Parsi graveyards, near the temple of Maruti, at shidi near Walkeshwar. Guru pournima (full moon day of Ashadha month for worshipping the Guru) used to be celebrated on a big scale at Birla Kreeda Kendra in Bombay. In spite of all these preoccupations in respect of society, he continued his penance for over 60 years. Maharaj also called upon the youth to come forward and revive the glory of Hinduism. He was awarded "Vishwagaurav Vibhushan" by the Parliament of the World's Religions

Day-01 -: Manori Ashram-Khopoli Ashram-Lonavala
Departure from Mumbai and visit Gagangiri Ashram Manori. After darshan at Ashram proceeds to Gagangiri Ashram Khopoli. Take a Darshan of Maharaj Samadhi and then proceeds to Lonavala on arrival check into a Hotel O/N Halt.
Day-02-: Kolhapur
After Breakfast Proceeds towards Kolhapur on arrival Check in to a Hotel. In the evening Visit Mahalaxmi Temple. O/N Halt.
Day-03-: Gaganbawada-Panhala
After Breakfast Proceeds towards Gaganbawada to visit Gagangiri Ashram.In the evening return back to Panhala O/N Halt.
Day-04 -: Jyotiba-Dajipur Ashram-Audumber-Sangali
After Breakfast Proceeds to Jyotiba Temple after darshan of Jyotiba proceeds to Dajipur Gagangiri Ashram. Take the Darshan and returned back to Kolhapur and proceed towards Audumber near Sngali After Datta's Darshan returned back to Sangali On arrival Check into Hotel O/N Halt.
Day-05-: Return back to Mumbai
